Brandon Lawless is stepping down as head basketball coach at Jefferson-Morgan, bringing an impressive run with the program to an end.
Lawless announced his resignation after compiling a 74-41 overall record without a losing season during his tenure.
According to Lawless, the decision was largely driven by the increased travel demands created by Jefferson-Morgan’s newly aligned section, combined with his work schedule. With some section road games requiring more than an hour of travel and games now beginning as late as 7:30 p.m., Lawless said he could no longer give the program the time and commitment he believes the position deserves.
During his tenure, Jefferson-Morgan captured a section championship, produced a school-record 24-4 season, earned a playoff victory and recorded a state playoff win. Those accomplishments helped establish one of the most successful stretches for the program.
Lawless was also quick to credit the players who helped make that success possible. His final numbers tell part of the story: 74 wins, 41 losses and zero losing seasons.
But for Lawless, those numbers also reflect the players who bought into the program and helped elevate Jefferson-Morgan basketball during his time on the sideline.
Lawless leaves Jefferson-Morgan with a winning record, a section championship and several milestones that will remain part of the program’s history.
